Points to Note

The Huddersfield group's walk grades differ from the national Ramblers walk grades. Here are their definitions:
E = Easy. Route entirely or mainly on good paths. Climbs few and gradual. Suitable for anyone of good fitness.
M = Moderate. Route involves some ascents and descents, which may be steep, but should not be prolonged. Any rough, off-path terrain should be for short periods only.
S = Strenuous. Route involves prolonged climbing or frequent ups and downs throughout, and may include rough, off-path terrain, possibly for quite lengthy periods.
VS = Very Strenuous. (A+ only.) As for Strenuous, but usually over a longer distance; may additionally include scrambling.
Please note that these grades are intended to give an indication of the strenuousness of the terrain of the walk, not the strenuousness of the walk itself, which also depends on the distance covered.

Please bear these grades in mind before joining one of our walks, and, if in doubt, consult the leader. Our A walks typically have 1,500 to 2,000 feet of climb. If you have any doubts about your fitness, please try one of our easier walks first.

Further points to note:
  1. Ground conditions underfoot - mud or snow, for example - may add to the difficulty of any walk.
  2. Ensure that you are wearing/carrying suitable clothing for the weather conditions. The weather can be very unpredictable on high ground, and you should always carry waterproof clothing. Even on low ground, waterproof footwear is nearly always needed. Make sure you have protection from the sun in summer.
  3. Take plenty of food and drink, especially in extremes of heat and cold.
  4. Follow the leader's instructions at all times. Do not walk ahead of the leader without permission.
  5. Inform the leader if you decide to leave the walk at any time, or if any untoward circumstances occur, e.g. illness.
  6. Follow the Country Code.
